A rebreather recycles rather than vents the exhaled breath. The exhaled breath passes into a closed loop, where it is pushed through a chemical absorbent (scrubber) to remove the carbon dioxide, and returns through the other side of the loop for the diver to "rebreathe", hence the name "closed circuit rebreather" or CCR.

Mar 13, 2012· I am about to make the transition to rebreathers, but I am still uncomfortable with the lack of CO2 monitoring in the loop. Things seems to be changing with the Sentinel offering a CO2 sensor as an option, but I cannot explain why there is no such offering from other manufacturers. In fact, I have heard a manufacturer telling me that they "do not need one" as their scrubber cannot experience ...
Dec 11, 2020· Written by Kevin Gurr Fact Closedcircuit rebreathers (CCRs) are popular in advanced recreational diving owing to advantages such as minimisation of gas consumption and the optimising (reduction) of decompression. Rebreathers recycle expired gas around a closed loop circuit using oneway valves. Expired carbon dioxide (CO2) is removed as it passes through a ‘scrubber’ canister …

Jun 26, 2017· Protein yields about L, while carbohydrates yield 1 L of CO 2. If a diver works hard enough to produce lactic acid in the muscles, then the CO 2 production will be well over 1 L for every L of O 2. So, the CO 2 production may vary by ±15%. …
